Instructional Provider Regional Substitute

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Contract Staff Manager, facilitate and implement after-school program activities; provide assigned instruction for K-12 students; and provide supervision of after-school program students.
The Instructional Provider Regional Substitute position serves as a regional substitute covering multiple school districts within a designated service radius of approximately 20 miles across North Orange County. This position guarantees a 5-day work week within the designated region. The substitute must be prepared to travel within this region and cover assignments based on daily operational needs.
Although this is a substitute role, the position requires availability Monday through Friday to ensure consistent coverage. Instructional Provider Regional Substitutes are responsible for responding and committing to covering open shifts in a timely manner.
Additionally, employees in this role are eligible to earn an Attendance Incentive Bonus of $1.00 for every hour worked, based on overall attendance and reliability metrics as defined by CSTC’s attendance policy.
The assigned hub location for this role is the Santa Ana Home Office.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supervise and deliver instruction to a classroom of students, facilitating participation in hands-on, engaging, and experiential learning activities that promote curiosity, collaboration, and academic growth.
• Work with and instruct elementary school students individually and/or in small and large groups while maintaining appropriate program ratios.
• Implement effective classroom management, discipline, and instructional strategies.
• Set up activities on a daily basis; prepare and duplicate materials and operate instructional equipment.
• Monitor and evaluate instruction and student progress.
• Maintain daily after-school attendance sign-in/sign-out logs and other required records.
• Maintain classroom or learning facility in a clean, organized, and healthy manner, store materials daily.
• Supervise students in and out of the classroom during after-school activities.
• Maintain frequent and regular parent communication and support parent involvement.
• Attend staff meetings, planning, and training sessions weekly or as required.
• Perform job-related duties as assigned.
• Strong Classroom Management Skills: Ability to maintain a structured, positive, and inclusive environment that supports learning and behavior expectations.
• Youth Engagement: Demonstrated ability to plan and lead fun, developmentally appropriate academic and enrichment activities that keep students engaged, curious, and excited to learn.
• Dependability and Professionalism: Consistent attendance, punctuality, and reliability are essential, along with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Positive Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with students, families, school staff, and teammates. Instructional Providers must serve as positive role models and effective communicators.
• Commitment to Belonging: Sensitivity to and respect for diverse backgrounds, cultures, and abilities of students and families.
• Growth Mindset and Flexibility: Willingness to learn, receive feedback, and adapt to evolving program needs.
• Experience with Elementary-Aged Youth: Previous experience in educational or recreational settings is highly preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION:
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• A minimum of 48 semester units or 60 quarter college units or pass NCLB test.
• Must pass Live Scan (criminal background check via fingerprinting).
• Provide a clear TB test.
• Excellent communication skills (Written and Verbal).

• Proper English grammar, spelling, and math.
• Simple record-keeping and filing techniques.
• Appreciation of community and school district cultures and languages.

• Perform clerical duties and essential job functions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
ENVIRONMENT:
• Indoor/outdoor Classroom and Playground environment.
• Moderate noise (examples: typical school noise with children at play).

 

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
• Seeing, hearing, and speaking to monitor and exchange information.
• Dexterity to operate instructional equipment.
• Bending, kneeling, or crouching to assist students.
• Standing or sitting for extended periods.
• Lifting or moving objects up to 30 lbs.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
• Must be available Monday–Friday for the entire shift schedule.
• Must be willing to travel within the designated regional area (XX-mile radius) to cover site needs.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Responsible for responding and committing to cover open shifts as they become available.
• Eligible for $1.00/hour Attendance Incentive Bonus based on meeting attendance incentive eligibility requirements.
• Assigned hub location: Santa Ana Home Office.
